                                          G:  N’Zogbia 11, Martins 21, Martins 27, (Anelka 50)

A great start for United, who could easily have scored six in a one-sided first half. A crafty N’Zogbia free kick, a spectacular bicycle kick by Martins, and a flukish deflection sealed the game before half time. Anelka finished off a fine move but Bolton never seriously threatened after that. The midfield trio of Geremi, Smith & Butt were awesome.

United’s failure to score a goal at SJP since February only once looked like being redeemed, and it was defender Rozehnal rather than one of the six recognized strikers in the ranks who produced the one great save by Carson. At the other end only Steve Harper’s heroics kept out Villa, and it was United who were happier with the point in the end.
